RACHAEL Taylor is to return home for the premiere of her new movie Summer Coda next month as she tries to put the trauma of her troubled relationship with ex-boyfriend Matthew Newton behind her.
News of her homecoming comes as it was confirmed the actress has landed a guest role in hit TV drama Grey's Anatomy, in which she will play, not surprisingly, a doctor.
In an exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into life on the Summer Coda set, Taylor revealed the role reinspired her passion for acting.
"This has been the most important movie I think I have ever made," the 26-year-old actress said on the set of the romantic drama-road movie.
"It's made me excited about acting again."
Such is Taylor's enthusiasm for writer-director Richard Gray's feature film debut she has indicated she will walk the red carpet with co-star Alex Dimitriades, braving the media glare sure to surround her first public appearance since she was allegedly assaulted by Newton in Rome in August.
Gray says the actress finally gets to show what she is capable of in his low-budget film, which was shot in Mildura and California.
"She's in virtually every scene. Powerful female roles are few and far between in Australian cinema, particularly at her age," he said.
In Gray's screenplay, Taylor's character Heidi plays the violin. To master the fiendishly difficult instrument in just three months, she first studied at UCLA, and then took instruction from a private tutor.
"She carried the violin wherever she went. She would practise constantly - in her lunch breaks and after hours," Gray said.
The role also required Taylor to play pool like a pro.
"I read Baz Luhrmann sent Nicole Kidman roses when he wanted her to do Moulin Rouge. I sent [Rachael] a pool cue."
